JIGSAW Activity: Students will be broken up into three (3) groups. Each group will be responsible for reading one of the following articles and creating a chart highlighting the key findings, citing textual evidence that supports the transition to the Core within the following articles. Each will then share out as to what stood out.
Individual Reflection Students will then complete an individual reflection by viewing either an ELA or Math Webinar. Upon completion of the viewing, they will then complete and submit a T-chart citing (3) key details that resonated with them as we begin uncovering the CORE standards.
The Depth-of-knowledge (DOK) was created by Norman Webb from the Wisconsin Center for Education Research. The Depth of Knowledge is the degree of depth or complexity of knowledge standards and assessments require. This criterion is met if the assessment is as demanding cognitively as the expectations standards are set for students. This module will examine student behaviors and examples relating to the four (4) levels for assessing the DOK of content standards and assessment items. Meet Norman and how he assisted Mississippi with his theory for Depth of knowledge. Go through the entire website. It will build your background knowledge. Then download the DOK pdf from Karin Hess. This may also help you.
Review the "Shop Talk" pdf. Find your content area. What did you learn about DOK and the progression from Recall/Recognition to Extended Thinking? How will this help you in your delivery of instruction? Create a product of your choosing to assist in your reflection to the class.
